Dan has been an avid skater, skier, and surfer most of his life. He started making boards full time in August of 2008 and since has shown boards at festival, shows, galleries and shops from Tennessee to the Pacific. The response to the boards and his passionate energy has been amazing!
Combining his passion for fun and thrills with his education in Fine Art and Horticulture, Dan Dengler Longboards and products are inspired by the natural shape, color, and form of the original source. Boards are made out of cuts from wood salvaged throughout the country, from trees that would otherwise have been forgotten. The collection of wood types is continually growing.
"---The original motivation for these boards was simply to create something unique and really fun to ride that was different from anything else available. Soon after I saw this was a wonderful way to show off the true raw beauty and form of wood and to make good use of a usable material.
As an arborist and tree surgeon I was constantly cutting into wood from different angles and seeing its beauty from a different perspective. Much of the wood I find the most amazing is deemed defective or unusable by sawmills and would otherwise go unseen by most people.
The first pieces came from trees in and around Nashville where I began. Since then, I have collected wood during my travels around the country. I dry and process the wood myself, using no more than powered hand tools and the inspiration the wood gives me. The boards are as enjoyable to look at, as they are to ride…well, almost! " Dan Dengler
